“THESE THREE.” Very fine acting by three o’f to-day’s screen favourites—Merle Oberon, Miriam Hopkins, and Joel McCrea—gives ‘These Three,” which is being shown today and to-morrow night at the Regent Theatre, a particularly dramatic appeal. The story opens 'with the graduation ceremony of two women students, who decide to conduct a school for girls in a house in the country, owned by one of them. After many difficulties are surmounted the school, with the asistance of Joel McCrea, a neighbouring doctor achieves considerable success. Twelve-year-old Bonita Granville takes the part of the troublemaker. “Rose of the Rancho.” To be screened at the late shoppers’ session at 9.45 p.m. to-morrow, “Rose of the Rancho,” is a light-hearted musical film, set principally about a picturesque ranch in California. The I majority of the scenes are out of doors, and 300 players were assembled for some of them. Gladys Swarthout, from the Metropolitan Opera House, has the leading part, and she reveals a glorious voice, an attractive appearance and no mean acting ability. Miss Swarthout’s songs reveal careful choosing and her part is a happy and carefree one. John Boles is her leading man and he, too, contributes to the musical score. Willie Howard and Herb Williams, two wellknown stage comedians, are in the supporting cast with Charles Bickford and H. B. Warner. An outstanding associate programme has beeu arranged, including a Popeye cartoon, a colour classic, “Song Memories,’’ and “Moscow Moods,” with a full Cossack choir. One of the Grantland Rice sportlight series will also be shown.
