A verdict of guilty with l recommen | dation that leniency should be extended was returned by the jury jn the Supreme Court after eonsidcrina the case of James Francis Brady, second-hand dealer, who was alleged to have committed the offence of personification under the Electoral Act, 1927, on the dav of the general election last year. It was alleged by the Crown that, accused voted in the morning al St. Benedict's Hall and then wen', to a booth .at the Town Hall and applied for a second set of voting papets. The case came before Mr Justice Callan. For accused Mr Elwarth said Brady was so much under the influence of liquor that be did not realise what he was doing when he applied for voting 'papers. Although it had been shown that accused had voted at St. Benedict's Hall on the morning of election day he had no recollection of having done so. He was in such a helpless state of intoxication on that day that he did not recollect either voting or being in the vicinity of the Town Hall during the afternoon. Accused was_remanded for sentence.
