Meteorological Office, "Wellington, Wednesday, May 6, 4 p.m. General Situation.—The last of the present series of westerly depressions is moving on to the Dominion. An intense anti-cyclone covers Eastern Australia and is advancing on to the Tasman Sea. Forecast.—Winds: Moderate to strong northerly to westerly of gale force in places, backing to southerly to-night in the far south and southerlies extending- over most of the Dominion during the next 24 hours. Seas (N.Z. waters): Rough on the west coast, rough to high in the Cook and Foveaux Straits area, elsewhere moderate but later rising south of East Cape. Eastern Tasman Sea: Northerly winds at first in the northern portion, southerly in the southern portion and strong southerlies soon becoming general; seas rough. Weather. —Unsettled, changeable and squally, with rain in most districts. Heavy showers and hail probable in places. Temperatures becoming cold with snow on the ranges and conditions improving tomorrow on the west coast of the South Island.
