PUBLIC MEETING TO-NIGHT The meeting Io be held : u the <*iv Couneil Chambers to-night at 8 o'dork has been called by His Worship the Mayor in response to Ire wishes of •hose who have, for some lime past, taken an active interest m the establishment of a permanent health camp in Wanganui. Sin»ce the inception of the health camp ; movement in 1919 when Di. Elizabeth Gunn held her first camp at Turakina on the grounds provided fur her gratuitously by the late Mr. B. P. Lethbridge, rapid strides have been made in the developmnt of lhe idea. Dr. Gunn held annual camps for many years despite the handicap of Jack of finance and her efforts have proved such a-n unqualified success that ihe Govern- , ment has at last given its n hole-h- arted approval of the establishment of health . camps throughout lhe Dominion. Wanganui has been selected as ‘he centre ' of a very large district and owing Io . the generous donations <f prominent citizens a site second to none in the Do>minion has ben vested ;u a trust board as a permanent health camp for the Wanganui district. Tac board of trustees has worked quietly, but none the less efficiently, to equip the site | and erect the necessary buildings and at an early date, when the tea kiosk at Castle'ciiff is re-erected on the site, residents of the district will have cause to be proud of the splendid results achieved by this handful cf citizens. It is to help the board of trustees to reach their objective that Uis Worship the Mayor has consented to preside over Lhe meeting to held to-night when speakers will outline the ulau whereby it is hoped to raise a fund of £l.OO to finish the equipment of the buildings and pay the upkeep of the camp for at least 12 months. It is hoped that a full a. : ndance. of citizens will be present at the meeting and that an influential organising committee can be appointed tu contivl the appeal.
