MACLEAY—RIDER

Many relatives and friends gathered at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Wanganui, on Wednesday, April 15, to witness the wedding of Ola Rita, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Rider, of Wangaehu, to lain Alisdair, eldest sou of the late Air. and Mrs. John L. Macleay, of Puriri Valley. The Rev. J. Paterson officiated at the ceremony, which attracted much friendly interest throughout the district. The bride and her retinue of four bridesmaids made a picturesque group as they entered the church. The bride was a radiant figure in her robe of white chiffon velvet. The charm of the gown lay in its simplicity of style and graceful lines. A girdle of pearls encircles the waist and the skirt formed a long train. Over the gown fell a long and billowing veil of white tulle arranged to the head with a circlet of orange blossom buds. A lovely sheaf of carnations, Easter lilies, gladioli and maidenheair fern was carried by the bride, who was given away by her father. The bridesmaids were Miss Joan Rider (sister of the bride), Miss Rae Macleay (sister of the bridegroom), Miss Phillis Hackshaw and Miss Audrey Cameron. All four attendants wore becoming frocks of peach crepe made on slender fitting lines, with sleeves of ornamented net and the skirts ending at the back in fish-tail trains. Pretty finishing touches were the gold clips. In their hair they wore bands of gold leaves and they carried shower bouquets of pom-pom dahlias, polyanthus roses and fern with long trails of fern. The best man was the bridegroom’s brother, Mr. Bain Macleay, of Turakina Valley, and the groomsmen were

Messrs. William Rollick (Mangamahu), Dudley Rider and Charles Forlong. Messrs. Louis McLeay and William Moffett carried out the duties of ushers. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Elrick, where a large number of guests, including friends who journeyed from Wellington, Hawke’s Bay and the Waverley district to be present at the wedding were entertained by Air. and Airs. Rider, the latter wearing a black matalasse ensemble and black peach bloom velour hat. She held a posy of scarlet geberas and carnations. The tables were tastefully decorated with flowers to tone with the bridal frocks. The usual toasts were honoured and numbers of telegrams read. After the reception a dance was held, there being about 200 present and a very enjoyable evening was spent. The bridegroom’s sister, Airs. S. G. Baily, who assisted in receiving the guests, wore a Alarina green floral frock with hat to tone and carried a posy of flowers in autumn tones. When the happy couple departed, the bride travelled in a brown marocain frock under a dark brown fur coat, hat, bag and shoes to match. MILSON—DEIGHTON A small but pretty wedding was celebrated in the Kawhatau Church on April 22, when Marjorie, third daughter of Mr. and Airs. Morell Deighton, was married to Brian, second son of Captain and Airs. Alilson, Cheshire, England. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. E. W. Burgin. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked very charming in a frock of blue and white marocain, blue hat and shoes to match. She carried a bouquet of blue and white delphiniums and roses. Her sister Dorothy acted as bridesmaid and wore a frock ■of red and white floral voile. Her shoes and frock were to tone, and she carried a posy of scarlet flowers and
