Coming-of-age Party. Mr. and Mrs. C. Potaka Osborne entertained a large number of friends at L’arikino on Saturday evening in honour of the coming of age of their daughter, Lucy. Despite the inclement weather, there was a large attendance of friends from Wanganui and surrounding district. A bounteous re- i past was enjoyed by the guests, and after the handsome three-tier birthday cake had been cut, a number of toasts were honoured. In proposing the health of Miss Potaka Osborne, Mr. J. J. Lissette, who presided, referred to the fact that Miss Lucy had been educated at the Parikino School and at the Turakina Maori Girls’ College and was now a teacher a the school where she had attended as a little girl. I’he speaker said he had known Miss Lucy ever since those days, and he could say that she was a credit not only to her parents and the people of Parikino, but also to her race. He wished her every success and happiness in the future. The toast was enthusiastically honoured, and was followed by the singing of “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” The health of the parents was then honoured, after which a number of musical items were contributed. The hall was then cleared for dancing, which held sway until the early hours. SURPRISE PARTY A surprise party arranged by friends was taken to the home of Miss Mary Doolan, Gonville, last evening to congratulate her on her new appointment at Wellington and to wish her every success. A very jolly evening was spent.
