Meteorological Office, Wellington, Tuesday, May 5, 4 p.m. General Situation.—A westerly depression followed by one or two secondaries is crossing New Zealand to-day. An anti-cyclone is moving on to south-eastern Australia, where pressure has risen considerably. Forecast.—Winds: North-westerly at first, moderate to strong generally and reaching gale force in-parts of Cook Strait. A change to southerlies beginning this evening in the south and extending over the Dominion by to-morrow night. Seas (New Zealand waters): Seas rough on the west coast and in the Cook and Foveaux Sltrait areas, elsewhere moderate but later rising on the east coast of the South Island. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong south-westerly winds ami rather rough to rough seas. Weather: Cloudy to overcast with rain at times in most districts.
