VALEDICTORY. Two popular and highly esieeintd settlers in Mr. and Mrs. M. Corrigan, of Raukura. are leaving the Taihape district shortly and needless to sav their departure will be sincerely and widely regretted. On Monday evening the settlers of the Raukura and Ngawaka districts assembled at the Ruakura school for the purpose of according Mr. and Mr.-. Corrigan a “send-off. ” A euchre party and dance was held and proved most enjoyable. The euchre prizes were won bv Miss Dorothy Dobson (ladies) and Mr. A. J. Smith (men . The consolation prize was won by Miss B. Addis. The music for the dance was kindly supplied b\ Mr. McColl. A bountiful and pleasing supper was provided by the ladies. During an interval, Mr. Corrigan was presented with a handsome travelling rug, while Mrs. Corrigan received a lady’s beautiful handbag. The presentation was'made by Mr. C. E. Laidley on behalf of the Raukura and Ngawaka settlers. Mr. Laidley expressed the deep regret of the Raukura and Ngawaka settlers at the approaching departure of Mr. and Mrs. Corrigan and wished them every success and happiness in their new sphere. Mr. Laidley. who is one of the oldest settlers at Raukura. paid a warm tribute to the popularity and fine qualities nf the guests of honour, ami added that both Mr. and Mrs. Corrigan occupied a high place in the hearts and affections of the settlers of Raukura and Ngawaka, and would be greatly missed. Both were noted for their kindly disposition and warm hospitality and would carry with them the best wishes of every settler in the two districts mentioned when they left Raukura. Cheers were then given for Mr. and Mrs. Corrigan, to be followed by the singing of “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows.” Little June Floyd presented Mrs. Corrigan with a bouquetIn responding, Mr. Corrigan thanked the settlers of Raukura and Ngawaka for their gifts and expressions of esteem and goodwill and added that he and Mrs. Corrigan would always remember with feelings of deep gratitude the kindness which had always been shown them by all those with whom they had come in contact during their long sojourn rt Raukura. They would treasure, most highly the gifts which they had received from the settlers of Raukura and Ngawaka, and would always look upon their association with the people of these two districts as one of the happiest periods of their lives.
