CONCILIATE IN PROCEEDINGS [ Per Press Association ] WELLINGTON. April 8. The New Zealand Federated Drivers and Related Trades dispute was heard in the Conciliation Cuuncij to-day, Ah I’. Hally presiding. The Dominion awaid had lapsed, the industry being at present, covered by di<iict awards. The union applied for a Dominion award and sough: a maximum 40-hour week inclusive of time tequired for necessary attendance to horses and vehicles, any time over eight hours a day to be paid for at overtime rates and work done before 8 a.in. or after 5 p.m. to be paid for at overtime rates, except in specified cases. The employers offered a 18-hour week. The. wages sought by (he union were £4 18s (>d for driving amt attending one horse, with 6s exl;n fo«’ eavh additional horse and from £5 3f for drivers of motor vehicle.' up to 2 tons, to £5 15s for driving such vehicles over .10 tons, £5 5s 6d for driving tractors, and £5 3s for driving mowers oj rollers. The employers’ offer was the. wages of the existing district awards, namely £3 17s 8d for one-horse drivers, £ I Is for two-horse drivers, £3 10s for motorvehicles not exceeding in weight with load one ton, from £3 19s for driving vehicles over one ton and up to two lons, to £1 9s 6d for vehicles over 10 tons, with corresponding rates for drivers on hourly wages.
