Air. .1). Jarvis, of Sydney, is a visi ior to Wanganui and is staying at the Rutland Hotel. Sir Henry Horton, of Auckland, and Lady Horton leave Wellington to-day by the Rangitata for England. Air. H. Collier Smith and Air. G. R. Brunley are Melbourne visitors to the citv and are guests at Foster’s Hotel. Sir George Elliot has been appointed chairman of directors of the Bank of New Zealand in succession to Sir William Watson. Air. Lance Cross, general secretsr; of the Y.AI.C.A. in Wanganui, left for Timaru yesterday for a six weeks’ holiday to convalesce. Lord Latymer and Lady Latymer arrived in Wellington on Tuesday from the South Island and will leave for England on the Rangitata to-d\v. In the Legislative Council yesterday, lion. Al. Fagan reported that the Speaker, Sir Walter Carncross, who was absent from the Council owing to illness, was much improved. Sir George and Lady Shirtcliffc, of Wellington, intend to leave for a visit to England on the Tamaroa on Afay 22. They will return to New Zealand at the end of the year and will probably stay at Jamaica for a few weeks en route. IDr. Agnes Bennett, medical officer in charges of St. Helens Hospital, Wellington, who is retiring after 32 years’ service, was farewelled yesterday by the medical and nursing staffs of the Health Department.
