Cr. Trott raised a protest at the work of sealing Balgownie Avenue being undertaken without the council’s know, ledge. It was explained by the Mayor ami Cr. J. D. Crowley (chairman of the Works Committee) that repeated requests had been made fur this work to be done. It was urgent work, and had to be undertaken as the road was ready for sealing. The city engineer (Mi’ L. F. Row) supplemented those expressions to the extent that there are two types of sealing undertaken —one to give relief to residents in the city from dust nuisance and as a convenience. and the other to carry increasing traffic. 'The street in question came within the latter class. It carried a vast amount of traffic and was a difficult piece of road to maintain. It was an economical matter for the council to seal it. A tender of £3 per month for leasing land at Hylton’s Reserve, Aramoho, submitted by A. A. Shanks, was accepted. It was the only tender received. Ratification was minuted of the engagement. of Air. On the recommendation of the medical officer of health, the Works Committee is to bo into the matter of the council’s passing a by-law to control buildings where the number of rooms let to lodgers exceeds four. The council confirmed the. appointment of Air. R. W. Dyer and authorised him to seize and impound unregistered dogs.
