GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE [ Per Premi Association. ) TE KUITJ, April 7. Fourteen charges that being a ser vant of the New Zealand Lands and Survey Department he stole sums of money from that department, were preferred against Richard Cleverdon in the Court before J.P.’s this morning. The amount involved in the charges was £395 2s sd. It was alleged that the sums were stolen from the department about the following dates at Te Kuiti: May 19, 1934, £li); September 23, 1932, £37 Os Sd; March .1, 1931, £l5 6s 3d; November 3. 1934, £2O; March 16, 1935, £9 16s 9d; March 27, .1935, £ll4 Is 6d; May 24, 1935, £18; July 31, .1935, £93 19s 2d; September 26, .1935, £6; October 30, 1935, £7 10s; November 11, 1935, £7 J Os; September 13, .1935, £2B 18s 6d; January 3, 1936, £2 10s; January 4, 1936, £24 10s Evidence for t he prosecution dis closed that accu ;ed was sub receiver for the departmc.i: and his duties com prised the supervision of Government farms and securities and monies. Accused pleaded guilty to each of the 1 1 charges and was committed to the Supreme Court at Auckland for sei li.nee on April 27. Bail was granted on one surety by self of £2OO and two others of £lOO each.
