A TINY BABY
JOY OF KARITANE.” One of the tiniest babies born in New Zealand, and certainly the tiniest to find its way into the Karitane Home. Mount Albert, Auckland, is Joy, who when born three and a-half weeks ago. weighed only lib. 10oz., states theNew Zealand Herald. On Thursday Joy was to be seen lying quietly in her cot, her miniature face, entirely placid while she slept, being framed In the smallest of white woollen bonnets. The minute Joy arrived at Kaartane she was taken out of her cotton woo’ wrappings, gently rubbed with warm oil, and then dressed in the special garments reserved at the home for premature babies. She was sponged and oiled once a week at first, but is now done twice a week, the process increasing as she gains in strength. She was kept in a specially-warmed room in a cot heated with three hotwater bags, and was fed every three hours. The matron and nurses at Karitane are very satisfied with Joy’s progress, for she now weighs 21b. 20z., and if care and attention mean anything atall in the life of a baby, Joy should grow into a fine healthy girl.
