WEDDING

BOYLE—ELLINGHAM. The wedding took place at St. John's < lunch, Dannevirke, recently, of Marjorie, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Ellingham, “Bywell,” Ormond* ville (an old girl of Woodford House), and Henry Russell, youngest son of Mr. William Boyle, Rosebank, Glasgow. The Rev. George Stevenson, Dannevirke. officiated. Creme French velvet fashioned the bride's gown and rain, and she added gold clips to the plaited neckline and a gold tassel to the trirdle A tulle veil was worn with a duster of orange blossoms and a sheaf of hothouse begonias was carried. Her bridesmaids. Miss Mary Ellingham (chief), sister of the bride, Misses Zona Haworth (Wanganui) and Cushla Fitzgerald (Tolaga | Bay), both school friends of the bride, r. ere similarly clad in sapphire blue velvet with gold girdles. Their headdresses were wreaths of real flowers in autumn tonings. finished with gold ribbon. and + ’eir bouquets were of autumn-tinted flowers and leaves. Ngaire Ellingham, as flower girl, was ir. a frock of French velvet to tone with the bride's, and her headdress was of real cream flowers. Mr. Kelvin Hunter, of Wellington, attended the bridegroom. The ceremony was followed by a reception at Andrew’s Hotel. WOMEN'S INSTITUTES ANNUAL MEETINGS. TURAXGARERE. Mrs. Bartell presided at the second annual meeting of the Turangarere Women's Institute on March 6. After extending a very hearty welcome to all present, business was attended to, including a report of a meeting held in Taihape for the purpose of forming a new federation, to be known as the Ruapehu District Federation. After a report of the year’s work had been given, and the balance-sheet presented, the committee (several of whom had held office for two years) resigned, and the election for new officers took place. Mrs. L. Anderson (Bennett's Siding), and Mrs. Gregory kindly consented to act as tellers for the election. The following members were elected:—Mrs Murdoch, president; Mrs. Brophy, vicepresident; Mrs. Redman, secretary (reelected); Mrs. Millan and Mrs. Fowler. All received very hearty applause. During the afternoon handsome bouquets were presented to Mrs. Bartell, Mrs. Pohe, and Mrs. Redman, all three suitably responding after the singing of “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows.’' The points prizes for the competitions for the year were won by Mrs. Thorpe and Miss D. Bartell, both these members gaining equal points. The junior members very capably served a dainty afternoon tea, which was much appreciated by all present. During the afternoon items were rendered by Mrs. Pohe, Miss Raukawa, the and the junior members. The sing ing of the National Anthem brought u very enjoyable meeting to a close. MANGAWEKA. The annual meeting of the Manga* weka Women’s Institute was held ou Tuesday, March 10, Mrs. Ginnane presiding over a large attendance. Several visitors were welcomed, including a member of the Waipu Institute. Miss T. Crawford gave a fine report of the Ruapehu Federation formation meeting at Taihape on March 3, and Mrs. Pairman was congratulated on being elected to the new federation committee. The Misses A. Gardner, R. Ooulsnam, and B. Smith entertained with a radio play entitled ,“A Night of Horror.’’ Mrs. [nee led community singing, and an amusing competition, “Sketch Your Neighbour,” was won by Miss I. Dickenson. The secretary presented a very satisfactory report on the past year s work and activities, membership strength for the year being 84, a decrease of two on last year’s figures. The president, on behalf of the institute, thanked the secretary and treasurer for their hard work throughout the year, and a hearty vote of thanks was 'passed to these officers, the president. and all who had helped in various way. As onlv twelve nominations were received for a committee of twelve no eelction was necessary, the following being appointed:—Mrs. W. IL Billinghurst, Mrs. W. Brown, Miss E. Crawford, Mrs. R. Dickson, Miss M. Dickenson ’Miss A. Gardner. Mrs. M. Ginnane Mrs. J. Ince, Mrs. M. Murphy, Miss Oulsnam, Mrs. Petherbridge. Mrs Williams. Mrs. Ginnane was re-elected president unanimously. Points competitions were:—Best asters, and collection of vegetables: Mrs. W. H. Bu-linn-hurst first in both classes; M.s. Oulsnam and Mrs. Dickson were second and third for asters, and Mrs. Petherbridge second for vegetables. Next month points competitions are for chrysanthemums, and a child s knitted singlet, entries for the latter to be given to a charitable organisation. Hostesses for this meeting were Mesdames Stowers, Kirkby, Noble and | Miss Stowers.
