WEDDING

THOMAS—SHIELDS A very pretty evening wedding was solemnised on February 13 at the Alethodist Church, Ohakune, the- contracting parties being Louise Jane Shields, eldest daughter of Air. and Airs. H. Shields, Palmerston North, and Thomas Clyde, eldest son of Air. and Airs. T. Thomas, Ohakune. The church was decorated by girl friends of the bride, with sweet pea-s, gladioli and lacopodium ferns. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. Air. Trustum and the organ, was played by Mrs. L. Nation. A solo was sung by Aliss MacDonald. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore an ivory lace gown cut on classical lines, with an oval train. The long slashed sleeves ended in a point over each hand. The embroidered tulle veil was arranged from a halo of orange blossom and fell in sof-t folds over the frock. Ivory satin shoes and silk hose to tone completed the ensemble, together with a sheaf of ivory gladioli. The bride was atttended by three maids, her sisters, Alisses Ethel and Leata Shields, and Miss Grace Thomas, sister of the bridegroom. They were frocked alike in slim-fitting frocks cf Alarino green crepe de chine fashioned with double flared epaulets* and duoble side flares. Each bridesmaid wore a dainty head wreath of pink flowers and tulle and carried a bouquet of haded pink asters. Mr. Cecil Rickard was best man, while Air. George Smale, Gisborne, and Air. Alan Snookes were groomsmen. The bride’s mother wore a smart navy model gown with a navy hat and toning gloves. She carried a bouquet of mixed carnations. The bridegroom’s mother wore a brown satin dress, with hat and gloves to match. Her bouquet was of pastel shaded phlox. The grandmother of the bride, Airs. G. Smale, Gisborne, wore a black and white ensemble and carried a bouquet of scarlet carnations. Alesdames P. Gordon and S. Chiles, Gisborne (aunts of the bride), were also present. The bridegroom’s presents to the bridesmaids were gold signet rings. After the ceremony an enjoyable reception was held at St. Joseph’s Hall, about 150 guests attending. Mr. and Airs. Thomas left later for the south, the bride travelling in a sage green frock and coat, with white accessories.
