PUBLIC WORKS MINISTER

VISIT TO WANGANUI FIXED FOR MONDAY NEXT I’he Hon. R. Semple, .Minister of I üblic Works, is to be in Wanganui next Alonday evening and is prepared to receive deputations on matters affecting his department. Local bodiei and other organisations desirous of meeting the Afinister, are being asked to confer with Mr. J. B. Cottorill, ALP., for Wanganui, either on Sundav evening or Alonday morning. Mr. Cotterill has been in Wellington during the week and is returning to the ci tv at the week end. Quite a large volume ot business awaits the attention of the Minister of Public Works in this district, and the flood damage inland has increased the desire of several local bodies to meet him and obtain first hand i.formation relative to the attitude of the Government towards the difficu't task of maintaining badly needed access to farm produce at present slipbound. It is anticipated that ihe I’arapura Road will be thoroughly dismissed, not only from the angle that it is close 1 at present and is seriously handicapping the the city and back country, but also from the point ) r view that t5OOO has been found in loan monev > by the Wanganui County Council for the purpose of uplifting s-übstantid! subsidies from the Public Works Department and Unemploynien’ Board to reconstruct the road until it becomes a first-class highway.
