NEW FLATS

UP-TO-DATE BLOCK ERECTED IN INGESTRE STREET The Wanganui Aerated Water Company have shown enterprise and confidence in Wanganui in erecting a fine block of new flats at the corner of Ingestre and Hardy Streets. The new flats, four in number, are single-storey and have a frontage of 70 feet to Ingestre and a depth of 66 feet to Hardy Street. To give all four flats a frontage to Ingestre Street called for skilful planning, but this was successfully accomplished by the architects, Mr R. G. 'Talboys, R.N.Z.1.A., and associates, who developed the scheme in the form of a court. The design of the modern flat roof type has been skilfully treated by breaking back to give each flat and room a maximum amount of air and sunlight. Each flat contains a living room, two bedrooms, kitchenette and bathroom, with every convenience in the way of built-in wardrobes and cupboards, with all the latest fittings which go to make up a convenient and modern flat. A feature uncommon to many flats is a separate front and back entrance carefully arranged to give each tenant privacy and access to the laundries and garages in the basement. Modem materials have been used throughout, built on a concrete foundation, the exterior is of “Steeltex” with a modern plaster finish of lustre stucco. Special care has been given to the interior and sound deadening boards have been used throughout The tiling and colour schemes of the kitchen and bathroom are also worthv of note and with built-in fittings and bath, the work of the housewife has been reduced to a minimum. Yesterday the owners entertained those responsible for the carrying out of the work, when Mr Vest, managingdirector of the company, thanked the architect, Mr R. G. Talboys, for his able planning and supervision, also the builder, Mr L. G. Walker and the subcontractors. R. J. Bell (plumber). W. B. Alexander and Co. (electricians), Hughes, Allomes (painting), Bassett and Co. (joinery). Hunt and. Co. (plastering), Martin Bros, and Bain (plaster ceilings), for the finished manner in which thev carried out, their work.
