“THE GAY DECEPTION" "The Gay Deception,’’ a charming modern fairy tale told amid the luxury of a New York hotel, is proving very popular at the Plaza Theatre. It han been given many brilliant touches by the director, William Wyler, which lend the story a note of light-hearted gaiety throughout. A strong cast includes Francis Lederer, Frances Dee | and Alan Mowbray. "This is the Life’’ The child actress who scored such a notable success in "Ginger,” Jane Withers, gives another surprisingly polished performance In "This is the Life,” which will commence at the Plaza Theatre to-morrow. The leading player is only nine years of age, but has th-e assurance and poise of a far older actress. She shown amazing versatility, singing, dancing, acting and imitating with ease. John McGuire is cast as a police suspect who taken Jane Withers with him on his flight from the law. There are several amusing incidents during their travels before McGuire gives himnelf up, to be subsequently released. Playing in the leading feminine role is Sally Blane, who brightens up every scene in which she appears. Emma Dunn, Francis Ford. Sidney Toler and Pat O’Malley arc lesser players. The ntory moves with increasing interest from the early scenes where Jane is shown as a restricted child actrei-s, who, in spite ; of immense wealth and fame, is at the mercy of self-seeking guardians. The advent of McGuire gives her her chance of freedom and she takes it promptly. The scenes which follow give ample scope for comedy and for singing and dancing turns by the tai ented little girl.
