MODEL AEROPLANES
SUCCESSFUL INDOOR COMPETITIONS EVENTS AT NEW PLYMOUTH Though the continued wet weather upset the model flying compelition? that were to have been held at the ■ New Plymouth Aerodrome on Tues- j day, the meeting was not’abandoned, and a most successful series of events * was held in the Coronation Hall. The t ompetitors numbered 40 and were re- . presentatixe of clubs from all over the ' North Island, including Wanganui. ' The performances were of a particu ' ivrlv high standard, and the winning ) flights in all events were of long dura , non. Particular credit is due to the fine ; when it is realised that many of the ’planes being used on | Tuesday- were built only the previous j afternoon when it was realised that wet weather would probably prevent rne outdoor competitions being held. Most of the x Diting mm peri torbrought ’planes suitable for flying ■ out-of-doors only. The remarkable control which the! 1 rompetitors haxe over their snlill I planes was shown when a landing « • ompetition was held —the winner be- ' ng the competitor who could land his model nearest to a circle drawn on the floor. With practised hands the boys tvound their motors to the requisite ■ “trength and sent their 'planes soaring the length of the long hall to hind ; within a few inches, of the required spot. Proof that these models can emulate many of the manoeuvre.- of full-sized aeroplanes was given in the stunt flying competition. Rolls, loops, spirals! and dix es. all under perfect control. I were carried out. In addition some of i fhe competitors had their models under I full control while towing gliders. Results were:— Landing in Circle—• . Brown Am Kland i 1. V.
