BACK \FROM THE SOUTH M.C.C. TOURING TEAM KEEN ON SOCCER GAME MATCH AT WELLINGTONf [ Ter Preu Awociation. ] WELLINGTON, Jan. 15. Ewept for another visit to Christ church for the final match of their Ncvr Zealand tour, the M.C.C. representatives have completed th? South Island section of their itinerary, and they returned to Wellington this morning for the second match with Now Zealand, to be played aX the Basin Reserve commencing on Friday. The trip through the South Island was thorough! v enjoyed by the visitors, who greatly appreciated the ojyportunities, in the intervals between niatche«, of seeing something of the country. They are now keenly looking forward to the tour of the North Island. I'he popular captain, E. R. T. HoilmCs, stale I to-d<iv that those members of tin team xvho had been on the injured list were now quite recovered, but he himself was troubled by a hand injury, received in stopping a fast hall during the i.ialvh xvith New Zeeland nt. Dunedin. The hand is badly bruised, so much so, that unless it improves very eonsiideraibly he will be unable to play in the next match. Tic hopes, however, that the injury will respond readily to treatment and that he will ho able to lend his side in the second match with New Zealand. Provisional Selection In the meantime the intention nf the captain is that the team shall be the same as that which played at Dunedin, though it is possible that bv Friday a, change may be necessary. The team provisionally, is: E. R. T. TTulinois cao-tain. D. Smith (Derbyshire). J. 11. Parks (Sussex). W. Barber (Yorkshire). J. Hardistaff (Nottinghamshire). J. H. Human (Middlesex). J. Langridge (Sussex). J. M. Sims (Middlesex). S. C. Griffith (Cambridge Knives* H. D. Read (Esisex). A. D. Baxter (Mi'ldlescxY. N. S. Mitchell-Innes was twelfth man at Dunedin. Keen Socce" Players There has been talk of association football teams from other countries being invited to tour New Zealand, but nearer at hand than any such tours is a special match with a team at present visnting New Zealand. It may be news to most people that there is in New Zealand at the present time a roam of Association footballers from overseas, but the fact is that almost all members of the M.C.C. team flip keen footballers. The suggestion has boon made that they play an Association football match in Wellington when their cricket engagements have been fulfilled, and this has been taken up enthusiasticallv by members of the team. The proposal has vet to be approved, but so keen are the visitors on the idea that there is every likelihood if the football match taking nlnce in Wellington on Wednesday. March 11, two days prior to the team’s departure for England.
