'The Ross and Cromarty Liberal Association rejected the offer of Mr. Randolph Churchill, who was adopted on Saturday as a candidate in the forthcoming by-election by the local Conservative Association t;> stand down if the former body \vou!d nominate a Liberal National candidate in place of Mr. Malcolm MacDonald. Mr. MacDonald has received a telegram from .Mr. Stanley Baldwin, stat ing that he has the Premier's wholehearted support and strongly urging unionists, in the interests of the National Government, to support. Mr. MacDonald as they did Mr. Mac[flier so n. 'l'he Ross and Cromarty Conservatives’ Executive has tele^iaphed to Mr. Baldwin, declaring that his support of Mr. M. MacDonald is astonishing aud regrettable and challenges the whole democratic structure ol the party. Thev added that they expected Mr. Baldwin loyally to support the executive when they re>is(ed headquarters pressure to accept a nonConservative. Pipers escorted Mr. MacDonald to a meeting where he was cordially received, his supporters including Mr. Morrison (Financial Se<’relary to the Treasure). Sir William Martineau (exchairman of the Conservatives), and Captain Shaw Mackenzie (another committeeman) have resigned.
