ADJUSTMENT OF FINANCES PRELUDE TO AUTONOMY [ British Official Wireless. J Received Jan. 14, 6.20 p.m. RUGBY, Jan. 14. The India Office announces that in order to give effect to the Government of India and of the Burma Acts, of prescribing, as from the date provisional autonomy comes into operation, Burma shall cease to be a province of India, and with a view of defining the sums payable by Burma to India, the Secretary for India has adopted, subject to minor modifications, recommendations of a tribunal presided over by Mr L. S. Amery. He has appointed an Application Committee to draw up a statement of assets and liabilities of the Central Government of India at the date of separation, and, assessing the value thereto, to advise the Secretary of State. As to the assessment of sums to be paid by Burma the Committee will be guided by recommendations of the Tribunal.
