POLICY OF GOVERNMENT SOUGHT CITY COVNUII. S REQUEST The Wanganui City Council, at it.meeting last night, decided on the motion of Cr. J. D. Crowley, tu ascer- . lain the policy of the Government on I lhe unemployment question and to secure an estimate of the number of men \ the council would be obliged to pro- , x ide for during the coming year. Cr. Crowley, in moving his motion, | said that the council would soon be preparing its rates for the coming year • and it would be wise before a start ; was made with this work to ascertain v hat the new Government intended to dv Last year the council had to pro * ide £38'53 for the conveyance of re I ef workers and for the provisions of tools and equipment. Cr. A. 1 . Halligan said that he could rot see how the council could avoid increasing the rates next year. Rogers, said that there were several important matters that he intended to discuss with Ministers in the neu Cabinet.
