AVanganui bowlers are looking for ward tu the visit of the New South AVales touring team, who are due here next week. The N.S.AV. team comprises a party 21 strong, and in addition there are four ladies with the party. Among the visitors is Air. T. AV. Heath, president of the New South Wales Association, who is accompanied by Airs. Heath. At a meeting of Wanganui Centre delegates on Alonday night further ar- ' rangements were made with regard io ! the Australian team’s visit. Advice ; was received from the New Zealand As- : sociation that the New South Wales | team would leave Palmerston North on January 20 at 2 p.m. They would play at AVanganui on January 21 (Tuesday) and would leave later in the day fur New Plymouth. ' Play at AVanganui is to lake place on the AVanganui Club's green. An invitation is being extended to country clubs, including Kapanui and AVanganui West, to send in one representative ' each. The remaining clubs will be entitled to send two representatives each, and any shortage in the rinks will be made up by the city clubs. The annual inter-centre exchange of visits by the Alanawatu and AVanganui Centres is to take place early in February. An invitation has been received from Alanawatu for a AVanganui team to visit Palmerston North. The centre has decided to inform Alanawatu that seven rinks would visit Palmerston North on Wednesday, February 5, and clubs are invited to submit the names of likely players. An alteration has been made by the Wanganui Centre in connection with the annual Aeterans’ Dav tournament. This is tu be held on Wednesday, January 29, and clubs are requested to advise the centre regarding the personnel of their rinks. AVit>h regard to the proposed South Auckland visit, the Wanganui Centre is endeavouring to return last year’s visit, but so far the support promised has not been sufficient to warrant the trip being undertaken. Further steps are being- taken to get more definite information and the matter will be finally decided on January 20. If the trip eventuates the Wanganui team will probably leave on February 21 or 22, playing Ohakunc, Raetihi and Taumarunui. The secretary of the AVanganui Centre advises that he has received information that it is possible that some Ilaetihi members would like to make the trip. The visit will extend over a week and it is likely that Hamilton, To Aroha and Rotorua will be included in the itinerary. As the M.C.C. cricketers will be playing at AVanganui on January 25 the centre has decided to postpose all interclub matches and play them on FebruThe open pairs tournament will be held on February 11 and 12, and the open singles will be played on February 13 and 14. Both are to be played in sections and entries close on February 6. The annual visit of the Feilding Club to the Wanganui Club will take place on Anniversary Day, TVednesday next. It is expected that there will be a large contingent of visitors. St. John’s Club ’Fhe fifth round of the club full rink competition was played on Saturday. The keenness of the A green was accentuated by the wind, whiv.h made it hard to ‘‘hold them back.’’ The B green, which has more growth, was not so fast and was more sheltered. In the skips’ section the leaders are J. Hutchinson (4 wins, no losses), and I). Armstrong, Beswick, and Bcriverier (4 wins and one loss). ’Fhe leading “threes” are W. Brown, AV. Harris, and AVall-ace (4 and 1). Leading “twos” are Colmer and Havell (4 and one). In the leads section O. Catih.ro has 5 wins, C. Boss and W. Ca.thro, 4 and 1, and Newsome 4 and none. The handicap system is working quite satisfactorily in this competition. In the A pairs’ fifth round there are eight pairs, Leigh and Falconer with two lives and the other seven pairs one life. In the B pairs those left in are McChesney and Pepper, who have the bye, with two lives, Leslie and Hounsell two lives, and Barrowman and Kidd one life. In the fifth round of the A singles .15 are left in, Gilbertson (with the bye), Jack and AVilsoit have two lives, the others one life. In the B singles 11 remain in the fifth round, Threadgold (with th-e bye) Alosv. Russell, Kidd and Hounsell, have two Jives. The handicap singles were being arranged as these notes were written. The Ferns competition, evening rinks play, has drawn 13 teams who are drawn in two sections, each playing the other in his section. The Gordon Pa;it. competition has drawn 28 entries against last year’s 25 entries. Two round have been drawn. The Hum Cup is attracting plenty of challenges, Bt. John As representatives defeating Wanganui AVest last Alonday and Gonvillc on Thursday. Teams from AVanganui East were due at St. John's on Alonday evening to play both Hum Cup and Bannerith games, The Hum Cup game had actually started but was abondoned owing to the rain and will be played next Alonday. The Bannerith match will take place this evening. Air. Harry Stewart, a member of the Wanganui East Bowling Club, who has been spending the Christmas and New A ear vacation with Air. J. Lobb, New Plymouth, returned to AVanganui on Alonday. Air. Stewart has visited New Plymouth annually for 15 years, and before going back to AVanganui he expressed to the Taranaki Daily News his keen appreciation and pleasure at the hospitality and good fellowship extended to him. “Nowhere,” he said, “are visiting bowlers entertained so royally. One feels he is a member of every club he visit)-.’’ He also commented on the New Plymouth greens and said they were ahead of the Wanganui greens. A’ogeltown he referred to as one of the most perfect greens he had seen.
