In the case of a serious fire and the need of two plugs there would not bo enough hose available. The second grade hose is no good for fire purposes except for grass fires. The pressure for a big fire would burst second grade hose.' 200 feet had been damaged by acid in the last meat works fire and

this had been used for competition. A similar accident might occur again. The deputation was asked why a small length of hose .18 feet long had been cut. Captain Fitzwater replied that, it had been done when the hose had been sent to be cut in lengths. It was moved that couplings should be placed on this length to use in emergency. Air. Willis supported Captain Fi:zwaf er. It was moved es a recommendation from the council to the Fire Brigade, that the positions of captain of the brigade and caretaker be held by different persons. It was decided to ask the Fire Brigade to name a date when it will be suitable for the council to see a test out of the hose which the brigade thinks to be not fit for use and that couplings are to be placed on second grade hose. It was reported that restrictions on the use of water hose made people more careful. The water had four times run over into the river from the settling tank; the supply had never been better. It was decided that it was not worth while doing anything to 'he bore at the i orth end of he town as it would be too expensive, but to test for water as a reserve.
