£40l IN BANKNOTES
FOUND IN TINS UNDER A HOUSE BRISBANE, -Tan. 10. A rustv billycan and a jam tin, containing £4Ol in bank notes, were unearthed when an old house in Musgrave Street, Rockhampton, was being demolished. The notes were saturated with water, but were subsequently dried, and are now in the possession of the deputy public, curator. The house belonged Io Samuel Armstrong, an old-age pensioner, who died in January, 1935, and at an auction sale in June last it was purchased by a • neighbour, J. Black. Two contractors were given the job of demolishing the j house and erecting a new one, ami t Black himself assisted in the work. While he was moving some of the stumps, he saw a piece of rusty tin, but thought it was rubbish. Later, when one of the contractors was djg-o-ino- fresh stump holes, he again come upon the tin, which was handed with the contents to the deputy public curator.
