WANGANUI CENTRAL CLUB POLO TEAM CHOSEN. TO PLAY AT AHAMOIIO. The following have been chosen to repre»2nt Wanganui Central Swimming Club in the polo match with Aramoho, at Aramoho baths to-night:—S. McKinley, B. Haworth, B. Agnew, K. Welsh, P. Matthews, P, Dickson, ]\. Harrison. J. CoulF, J. IT. Byers. WANGANUI CANDIDATE JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS. MEMBER OF CENTRAL CLUB. Miss P. Watts, a member of the Wanganui Central Swimming Club, put up a splendid performance last evening at the St. George’s Gate baths before a good attendance of the public and centre officials, when she swam a dis tance of 50 yards in 31 .1 ssec. The trial proved most satisfactory and site will be assisted by the Wanganui Swimming Centre to represent this city at the New Zealand junior swimming championships which are to be held at Hamilton on January 25, 27 and 28. Her time for the first length of the baths was 14 2-ssec., which in itself is very good, and the return was completed in 16 4-ssec. When this is compared with the New Zealand record established by Miss D. Symon of 30 2-ssec., and with the New Zealand standard time of 34sec., it is at once obvious that Miss Watts’ performance is no mean one. Incidentally, it is the next fastest time made by a Wanganui girl. Some nights ago, Miss Watts swam TOO yards in 73sec., which is another good performance. She will in all probability enter for bo’th the junior 50 and 100-yari events at Hamilton. Her style of swimming is particularly suited to the Japanese crawl, which style has won many Australian, American and Continental championships. She has a powerful stroke and powerful arms, and her foot and leg action can scarcely be improved. Iler turning is perhaps the only weak feature. Miss Watts is a good stayer, and high hopes are held out for a successful debut in New Zealand championship titles.
