FIKE BOARD The quarterly meeting of the Taihape Fire Board was held on Friday evening, wlren Air. E. Loader occupied the chair. Also present were Alessrs. G. R. Cramond (Wanganui), G. A. Wilsher, 11. Dashwood, W. Henson (secretary) and Superintendent Alortland. The csupcrintendciit submitted the following report fur the months of October, November and December: “During liie above three months the brigade held three meetings and six practices. It is again pleasing to report that there wcie no fires or false alarms during this period. It would be gratifying if members of the board could find it possible to supply the brigade with 18 cap badges. The membership of the brigade is still at full strength, namely two officers and 16 firemen. The engine, plant and gear are all in good working order ” The report was adopted. Un the motion of Air. G. Wilsher it was decided to appoint Air. G. 11. Johnson supervisor of the lire alarm bystem till Al arch 31. The meeting resolved to place an order for two smoke h-elmeis. The question of disposing of the lire engine was discussed, and it was eventually decided to leave the matter in the hands of the eceretary. Air Cramond thought, that a machine capable of mere spued was required. Superintendent Alortland favoured a Ford VS as being the most suitable for hilly country. A. AND P. ASSOCIATION The monthly committee meeting of the Rangitikei A. and J’. Association was held on Saturday afternoon, lhe president, Air. J. Collier presiding over an attendance consirting of Messrs. F. Cottn il, F. Gat monsway, J. Weit<>, E. Fannin, A. R. Fannin, A". Nicholls, A. K. Overton, A. O. Addis, A. E. Samways, R. Gordon, G. Ferguson (Mangaweka) and the secretary (Mr. C. 11. Da will). The meeting stood in silence ac a mark of jespect to he memory of the late Air. .1. Coulter, who was a member of the association. A letter was received from the Hunterville Pipe Band stating that it was prepared to play at. the show. 'lhe Taihape Band’s quotation for providing music on the day of the tdiow was referred to the entertainment comniitce for decision. Some members were of the opinion that befh bands should be engaged as there would be an open-air entertainment on the night of the show. On the motion of Air. Garnionsway, the meeting accepter! Alesrs. Nicholls Brcb’. offer to provide a public address system at the show tor the purpose of announcing the results through a loud-speaker. A donation of a silver cup for most points for fat t-hcep and fat. lambs was received froni Messis. Sims Cooper. The donors were accorded a heartv vote of thanks. Air’ James Donovan was elected a member of the association. The prerider.t donated a bullock for the weight-judging competition at lhe show. Mr. A. K Overton donated a wether and lhe estate of J. F. Sludholme gave x lamb for the same, pny)Ose. Mr. H. Harris promised a bullock for next year. The donations were gratefully acknowledged. _ An alteration was made in fh*> school calf club competition, enabling calves other than purebred to compete, as well as purebred. Tn the part purebred calves only have been eligible. The secretary submitted the monthly financial statement, showing the association to be in credit to the extent, of £213 as at December 31, 1935, compared with a. credit balance of £203 at the end of 1934 At the end of December 1933 the association had a debit balance of £2OO so it is now £4OO better off than was the case two years ago. , The financial statement was. adopted. The secretary reported that the school authorities had kindly granted the association the use of the seecndarv department for the home industries section. The meeting expressed its thanks and appreciation. The chairman appealed ti. all members of tlie committee to canvass tor entries for the show, and so make the jubilee fixture an outstanding eueces*, PERSONAL Adjustant Barnes, the popular Salvation Array officer stationed at Taihape, has received notice of his transfer to Foxton and leaves this week to assume his new duties. Members ot the Taihape Returned Soldiers’ Association paraded on Sunday evening and attended the Salvation Army service conducted bv Adjutant Baines i-' the Array Hall, which was taxed to its utmosi rapacity. At the conclusion of the service,. Air. A. J- Hill, president of the Taihape serited Adjutant Barnes, who is a member of the executive committee ot the assoeiatioii and one of the leading lights on the social committee, with a handsome travelling rng.
