TELEGRAPH TRAFFIC
CHRISTMAS MESSAGES. INCREASE AT WELLINGTON. [ Per Press Association. 1 WELLINGTON, Dec. 30. Telegraphic business over the Christmas period in Wellington showed a marked increase. The total telegraph traffic lodged at Wellington on Christmas Eve, 1935, the figures for the previous year in parentheses, was (all clased) 21,075 (18,797), increase 3178 messages or 16 per cent.; greetings 15,452 (13,182), increase 2270 messages or 17 per cent. In addition to the foregoing, 49,264 messages were transmitted for other offices compared with 38,977 last year, and 22,187 (15,001) received at Wellington. The total returns show an increase on last year of 20,651 messages or 28 per eent. During the period from December 18 to 24, 52,976 comprising all classes of messages were lodged at Wellington against 40,423 last year, an increase of 12,553 or 36 per cent., while greetings alone were 25,498 against 16,109, an increase of 9389 or 58 per cent.
