CHILD KIDNAPPED
MOTHER AND SON ARRESTED ANGRY FRENCH CROWD. MARSEILLES, Dec. 2. After four days the police have arrested a woman, aged 68, and her son aged 25. kidnappers of an IS-month-s child of Dr. Malmjac, demanding £7UO lansom. When the police were about tc enter the apartment the son drew a revovler and threatened to kill the child unless They withdrew. The police shouted: “We promise not to arrest you; don’t fire.” They consulted headquarters, who reinforced the police and ordered the arrest, whereupon police broke in the d«n»r. snatched the child, overpowered the s*»n. an*l arreted the pair, who ad Protection from a crowd of 2000 people was ne<-r»ary to prevent lynchfg. During the search instructions v» io f- -i the child w? r e broadcast, as- well as a promise from the father tc pay the ransom. The pilire believed that the ransom was not wanted, the real objective of the kidnapping being to secure the child t> represent the heir of an important estate.
