CROSSING SMASH

ELDERLY FARMER IN.HIRED NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 30. _ With his car so badly smashed this morning after being struck by a train and flung into the bushes on the side of the line at Norfolk Hoad, 20 miles from New Plymouth, that a crow bar had to be used to open the door before he could be lifted out, A. Marshall, 75, of Inglewood farmer received serious injuries. Marshall was unconscious when taken from the car. He was returning to home in a light sedan car. To reach his home he had to cross the railway line by way of a private right-of-way with gates on each side of the line. The crossing is badly obscured by high banks. He was almost clear of the line when the car was struck by the train.. The car was twisted round and flung violently into the hushes on the side of the line.
