TWO STRONG NOTES

CHINA TO JAPAN

PROTEST AT AUTONOMY MOVE

VIOLATION OF RIGHTS [By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright] NANKING, Nov. 29. The Chinese Government has protested to Japan against the participation of Japanese military forces in tlifc North China autonomy move nentj and also the Japanese troops’ seizure of the railway stations at Fengtai and Changyimen. Two Notes which have been presented to the Japanese Consul-General are strongly couched. The first declares that the so-called autonomy movement has been engineered by disgruntled elements acting with the connivance of Japanese militarists, and asks the Japanese to curb the activi’ ties of military chiefs. The second asks for a guarantee against recurrence of such incidents as the occupation of Fengtai and Changyimen, which arc described as a violation of China’s sovereign rights. ’ SURPRISE TO BRITAIN REPLY BY JAPAN “MOVEMENT WHOLLY CHINBSE.” LONDON, Nov. 29. The Suu-Herald Agency says that, putting it mildly, the reply Britain received from Japan regarding events in the Far East caused the greatest surprise. The British, through the ■ Embassy in Tokio, invited the Japanese, owing to conflicting reports, to clarify the Japanese position. The reply was to the effect that the movement was wholly Chinese and spontaneous, but that Japan, as an interested party, would watch - developments.
