3894 •‘THE JAY ? ye ars “IT IS ENOUGH TO MAKE YOU WISH THE WEATHER CLERK AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA,’’ SAYS “THE VEILED PRINCESS’’ Dear Wendy,—l wonder if you have room for just one more Hunterville Ite this week? I w.on’t want much space —just a wee corner by the fire will do me. Beside the fire is the best place at present, I think —and only a few davs ago I was wishing I could go for a swim. This weather is enough to make one wish the Weather Clerk at ♦he bottom of the "sea, isn’t it’ but maybe if he was down there we would get worse than this, so perhaps we had better leave him alone and just hope he’ll give us a week’s sunshine for a change. Well, “Mother of Four,’’ so you have visited us at last. I do hope you bring “Mother of Six’’ with you next time, and how about bringing “Tea Caddy” and “Onga Lap,” too? Wendy, dear, I think I had better change mv pen-name to “The Unveiled Princess” as I don’t seem to have veiled my identity very well. First “Stella” savs she knows me, then “Kelly the Great” and “Shepherd’s Bride.’’ so what can I do about Jt? I’ll have to get a new veil I think, or perhaps I conld follow “Hairy Goat” to some of his native haunts and hide th< re. Well, “ Yellow Rose of Texas.” I couldn’t get a chance to hide the peanuts from “Laughing Lizzie.” but I think she has actually .... . f the pen and ink at last. Oh. “Green Linnet,” 1 think I can safelv sav I know who you are, but if “Poultry Maid” is on your trail I had better not print your initials, had I? Well. Wendy, I’ll say cheerio for now or this won’t get posted. With love to vourself an j all the Ites. — From “TH E VEILED PRINCESS, ’ ’ M.W.L.. Hunterville. Von are correct, dear, the fire is the Lest place, indeed, these wintry days. I am afraid we must just take whatever the Weather Clerk sends us. I wonder do your fellow Ites really know, or are they just guessing? —Wendy.
