LADY JELLICOE CLUB
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED SECRETARY FAREWELLED The fourteenth birthday of the Lady Jellieoe Club was very happily celebrated by the committee, members and ex-members yesterday afternoon, when fiere was a good attendance. Bowls of roses, lilies, rhododendrons, sweet peas and Iceland poppies intermingled with autumn-tinted foliage added a particularly pleasing effect to the clubroom. The president, Mrs. H. V. Hammond, welcomed the visitors. Several songs given by Mrs. Leo Campion were received with appreciative applause. A delicious home-made afternoon tea was cnjoyably partaken of by all, Mrs. Hammond cutting the cake, which was distributed among all present. Mrs. Hammond, in wishing the club “Many Happy Returns,” said that she was glad to see so many present, and it was hoped to make it an annual reunion as well as a birthday party. Apologies were received from Mrs. H. Bayly, who sent her best wishes for a happy gathering, also from Miss Pengelly. Mrs. Hammond then made the announcement that the secretary, Mrs. R. D. Tosswill, had resigned from the club as sho was going to England shortly to see her people. She would be greatly missed by the club. On behalf of the members the president asked Mrs. Tosswill to accept the gift of a leather travelling case as a mark of esteem, and hoped it would not be long before she was back in Wanganui and among them all again.
