MANY REDUCTIONS
NEW FEDERAL TARIFF INTERMEDIATE SCALE BACK ASSISTANCE TO MINING SYDNEY, Nov. 29. Sixty-nine increases, of which 28 are under the , British preferential rates, are involved in the Federal tariff adjustments which became effective today. Ad important feature is the reintroduction of the intermediate tariff which was abolished after the Ottawa Agreement, This will not operate immediately, but is included to provide * basis for the negotiation of trade treaties with foreign countries. Among the reductions in tariff are many affecting mining and metallurgical machinery, whi*eh are expected to assist the development of mines. Other reductions which apply to certain types of lampware, glassware, wrapping paper, and strawboard, arre the result of the Tariff Board’s statement that tIV profit o n capital invested in local industries has been high and the prices to consumers should be reduced. The increases mainly concern machinery adjustments.
