BURIED ALIVE
ELDERLY MINER’S DEATH FATALITY AT ALEXANDRA [ Per Prdss Association. J DUNEDIN, Nov. 29. Buried alive by a fall of earth, William Pearce, aged 61 years, was found dead at his claim near Alexandra shortly after 6 o’clock this evening. Pearce had been working during the day his claim, which is situated about a mile and a-half from Alexandra on the bank of the Manukerikea River. When he did not return to his home for >ea at 6 o’clock his son became anxious for his safety and informed Constable Sorrell, of Alexandra. The pair proceeded to the ‘claim, where they found Pearce buried by a fall of earth over three feet in depth. It was found that life was extinct. An inquest will be held this morning.
