KING’S STRONG STAND GAINING POPULAR FAVOUR | IBy Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright] Beceived Nov. 29, 11.20 p.m. ATHENS, Nov. 28. The King is showing a strong hand dealing witn the crisis caused by members of the Cabinet’s strong objection to the amnesty decree in the form approved by His Majesty. M. Condyle stated Cabinet s views and mentioned al>o the names of several senior officers who had threatened to resign, where upon King George summoned General p’apagos, War Minister, who, it is unj derstood, \ouched for the loyalty of 1 ’.he army, while expressing misgivings with regard to the prospect of several | hundred pardoned officers re-entering | the service. Meantime, M. Constantin Demerdjis was approached indirectly and asked uf he were prepared to form a neutral Government to proclaim the amnesty | and hold elections. He appears to have expresed willingness providing the attitude of the army is clarified. Genvral Papagos was again closeted with .he King this eevning. Meantime Gemonsirators are attempting to bring pressure on the King. When Al. Condylis left the palace, supporters shouted, “Long live Condylis! Down with the amnesty.” These manifestations do not affect the position of the King, who is winning popular support for his courageous stand for amnesty, which will enable the Republican leaders to participate in the political life of the country. The King, during the day’s conversations. threatened to leave the •country if the opposition persists. It is expected that M. Demerdjis will form an emergency Cabinet to-morrow.
