AUSPICIOUS OPENING

New Zealand Wool Sales VALUES AT AUCKLAND ABOVE EXPECTATIONS UP TO 50 PER CENT. HIGHER [ Per Press Association. J AUCKLAND, Nov. 26. The Dominion series of wool sales opened auspiciously at Auckland to-day, when a representative bench of buyers competed keenly for all classes, and values ruled from 20 to 40 per cent., and at times 50 per cent, above those at the commencement of last season, and we«e fully up to London parity throughout the sale of 20,707 bales. Passed lots were exceptional and the clearance was estimated at about 90 per cent. The sale was closely followed throughout by a packed gallery and producers generally expressed themselves as fully satisfied with the results, values often being as much as 2d per lb. above their limits. The average price per lb. realised during the sale could be conservatively estimated at Bd, as compared with 5.6 d at the corresponding sale last year, and with 5.64 d at. the March Auckland fixture. Allowing for passings and a price of about £l2 a bale, the total realisation for the sale would be well in excess of £225,000, as against £88,250 at the first sale last year, when only 11,300 bales were sold. The official report on the salfc of the Auckland Woolbrokers’ Association states:—Prices were in advance of those ruling last season, medium top-making wools being ljd to 2d up, and good style super wools 2d to 2Jd. Better pieces also sold well. Taking the sale throughout the appreciation was more marked on medium and coarse rather than on fine grades. The wool generally was in. better condition than lias been the case for many years past. The best price realised was 17 Jd for five bales of super halfbred. Bange of Prices.

Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report having received the following advice from their Auckland office iu regard to the wool sale: At the sale held to-day Japan and France were the mainstay of the market and were able to pay prices which were beyond the limits held by Bradford and German buyers. We quote realisations as follows:—Halfbreds 12Jd to 16d, few offerings; 50s lOd to 101(1; 48’s 9d to 94d; 46’s 8d to 84d; 44’s 74d to 8d; 40 Js 7d to 7|d; cots (good) 7d to 7id, rough 5Jd to 6Jd.
