SCHOOL SEWING JUDGED On Friday afternoon the sewing for the year was judged by Mrs. McFar- 1 lane and M rs. Flaherty, the latter judging Standard IV. Mrs. McFarlane remarked on the high standard of work throughout the school. Many thanks are due to Mrs. Flaherty who has given up so much of her time to take the girls in Forms I. and 11. Their work | is excellent and they have benefited a great deal by the interest Mrs. Flaherty has taken in the work. The following is a list of the prize- > winners. The prizes will be presented at the school break-up:—■ Standard Vll.—Joyce Stewart Nancy Heginbotham 2. Standard Vl.—Ann Elmslie 1, Joyce Luke 2. Standard V.—Mavis Old 1 (sewting). Mary Stewart 2 (knitting). Standard IV.—Gwen Harden 1 (sewing), Jean Boyne 2 (knitting). Standard 111. —Enid Lupton 1 (sewing), Alma Southcombe 2 (knitting). Standard I. —Bessie McDonald. Primer IV. —Jessie Lupton. ANGLICAN BAZAAR IN TOWN HALL The annual bazaar to raise funds for ihe Anglican Church was held m the Town Hall on Friday, November 22. The attendance was not quite so good as iu previous years because quite a number of farmers had commenced shearing. Nevertheless the afternoon was most successful an 1 about, £ll5 was made. The hoop-la, an innovation since lust yso;, caused great excitement and not only children but many grown-ups tried their skill. The ice creams and sweets also proved very popular. Ali the stall-holders and helpers in the supper room were kept very busy but the stalls were soon cleared. The winners of raffles were:—Tin of tea, Mr. P. English; Christmas cake, Mrs. T. Peapell; electric jug, Miss E. Zarucchi; Christmas dinner, Miss J. Johnstone; cushion, Mrs. Jack Pepper. Miss M. Thomas guessed the number of beans in the bottle and Mrs. Jack Pepper guessed the correct weight of the lamb (401bs). BOWLS NIXON CUP St. John’s Club visited Waverley on; Saturday, November 23, to play for , the Nixon Cup. St. John’s won by 30 j points, results being as follow (St. John’s players mentioned first): — Hay, Richardson, Leigh, Herd 24 v. Pepper, Sheppard, Jeffrey, Spratt 15. Condie, Newsome, Ormsby, Parkes 19 v. Marriott, Watkins, S. Aiken, J. Mills 13. Murdock, B. Armstrong, W. Harris, Scrivener 22 v. Foley, Currie, Dallison, R. P. Palmer 11. Kendrick, Lloyd, Toop, Jack 22 v. L. How, Hodgetts, James, Wicks 18. Totals. —St. John’s 87, Waverley 57. PERSONAL Miss J. Alexander, Waverley has re-! turned after spending a few weeks in Wanganui with Miss Sheila Lovell. Mr. and Mrs. Neville, who have been staying with Mrs. Mitcalfe, Waverley, j have continued to Auckland. Mr. H. Pepper is spending a few j days in Stratford with his daughter, | Mrs. R. M. Macmillan.
