STORM AND FLOOD
LIVES LOST IN ITALY Received Nov. 24, 6.10 p.m. ROME, Nov. 23. ' It is officially announced that 72 pen ished in a violent storm which swept Sicily and southern Italy, including Naples. There was much damage also in the Afessina district, where many; landslides occurred following torrential jain for seven consecutive hours. A family of six was drowned at Mammola when a house was washed away in the flood torrei.t. Alessina itself was six feet under water in some parts. Two slight earthquakes were also felt. Rescuers used rafts to reach families stranded on the upper floors of buildings. Telephone and telegraph, wires, also roads, were destroyed over a large area.
