LATE EARL JELLICOE THE KING’S SORROW / [ British Official Wireless. ] RUGBY, Nov. 22. A Court circular issued from Buckingham Palace last night contained the following notable tribute by the King to the memory of the late Lord Jellicoe:— “The King has learned with profound sorrow of the death of Admiral of the Fleet, Earl Jellicoe, who will for all time be remembered as Commander of the Grand Fleet during the long and critical jreriod of the war. The King knows that the loss of this great seaman will be deeply felt throughout the whole Empire and not least by the people c-f New Zealand, the Royal Navy, and ex-servicemen, whose confidence and affection he quickly won by his devotion to their welfare.” The Archbishop of Canterbury will take part in the funeral service on Alonday at St. Paul’s Cathedral. The burial will take place in the crypt c-f the cathedral, close to the sarcophagus which contains the coffin of Lord Nelson. It is announced from Berlin that Vice-Admiral Foertser, Coimnander-iu-Chief of the High Seas Fleet, will represent the German Navy at the funeral. During the funeral ships of the German Fleet will carry their flags at halfmast. It is officially announced from Buckingham Palace that the Prince of Wales will represent the King at the funeral. UNUSUAL HONOUR ORDERS TO FRENCH FLEET FLAGS AT HALF-MAST Pveceived Nov. 23, 12.30 p.m. PARIS, Nov. 22. Ensigns in the French Fleet and. at the naval bases have been ordered to be flown at half-mast until after Earl Jellicoe’s funeral, an honour previously only paid to French Admirals, the King of the Belgians, Marshal J off re, and Alarshall Foch. he was re-elected. Viscount Halifax, K.G., was born iu 1881, and is a Fellow of All Souls’ College, Oxford. He was President of the Board of Education in 1922-24, and Minister of Education in 1924-25. From 1910 to 1925 he was a Conservative member of Parliament, and for the five years from 1926 was A iceroy oc India. In 1932 he became President of the Board of Education, and last year he succeeded his father. In 1933 he became Chancellor of the University of Oxford. CANDIDATE’S DEATH t Received Nov. 23, 11.45 a.m. LONDON, Nov. 22. A few hours before the closing today of the poll iu the Scottish Universities, which has triple representation in the House of Commons, a Conservative candidate, Air. Archibald Skelton, died in a nursing home. The returning officer says that if Mr. Skelton has received sufficient votes he must declare him elected leaving Parliament to order a new election.
