MR. LAURIE EDWARDS. LOSS TO PA TEA SPORT. (From Our Own 'Correspondent.) PATEA, Nov. 12. Rugby football followers in Palea received a uot unexpected surprise to-day when it, was announced that Air. Lauric Edwards had received a transfer to Wellington. For the past two years, Mr. Edwards has been on the office staff of the Patca Freezing Company and his new position in Wellington will be similar work for Fletchers’ Ltd. He leaves J’atca on Saturday. Right from his school-days at Hawera Technical High School, Laurie Edwards has shown particular promise in Rugby. At the beginning of this season his inclusion in the All Black team was anticipated when he played in the trial matches. This young player, who is not yet 22 years of age, has four years of Taranaki representative football to his credit, has represented the North Island both last year and this and has played for “The Rest” against the All Blacks of last year. After being Ju his school’s first fifteen, from .1927 to 1932, he obtained both senior standard and Taranaki representative honours in his first year after leaving school. .From 1932 onwards he has represented Tarauaki and this last season, Taranaki’s Jubilee, has witnessed him play in every representative game. It is uot only in Rugby that Lauric Edwards has gained sporting prowess. He has shown ability at both cricket and track athletics and is also a member of Patca Surf Club and Patea Lawn Tennis Club. It will be seen, therefore, that his departure will be keenly felt at Patea, but none will begrudge him this chance of advancement.
