NEW SOUTH WALES TITLES N.Z. GIRLS IN CHAMPIONSHIPS PERRY TAKES NO PART SYDNEY, Nov. 11. The second day’s play in the New South Wales tennis ehampiouhtps was devoted to the doubles. There were many unexpected wins. The results included: — Men’s Doubles.—Turvey and Lewis defeated Sproule and Donjhoe, 6—l, 2 6, B—6, 6—2; Ferguson and Chrystal defeated Bromwich anl Huxley, 3 6, 6—4. 3—6, B—6, 6—3; Crawford and McGrath defeated Blanche rd and ! Tilney (U.S.A.), 6 —2, 6—l, 6—2 Women’s Doubles. —Misses Nicholls and Beverley defeated Mrs. Harper and Miss Berryman, 3—6, 6—l, 12—10; Misses I. Poole and T. Poole defeated Misses Tosh and Chrystal, 7—5, 6—4; Mrs. Betts and Miss Menzies defeated Misses Miller and Rudkin, 6—3, B—6. Mixed Doubles.—Turvey and Miss Hartigan defeated Bromwich and Miss T. Poole, 6—o, 6—B, 6 —l. All the New Zealand girls showed improved form. The Poole sisters combined excellently. Thelma scored many points with smashes, while Irene played a steady baseline game. Misses Nicholls and Beverley recovered from o—3 j n the final set against the Victorians and played very steadily in the final stages to win a match notable for long rallies. Perry has scratched for all events because of his back injury and will take no part in any competitions while in Australia.
