RIFLE SHOOTING. Members of tne Patea Defence Rifle Club, as well as visiting , members of Alton, Kaponga, and Wavcrley Clubs, took part in the opening competition for the season on the Patea Club’s range last Saturday. The Allcomers’’; Shield was at stake, and was eventually won by D. Roots, of the Patea Club, who secured a possible 35 in the 500 yards range. The competition was held at 500 and 600 yards ranges, conditions being not altogether favourable for good shooting, the light and wind being variable. President P. Palmer welcomed the visitors and members. Presidents T. Peapell (Waverley), and Jackson (Kaponga) and Rifleman Roberts (Alton), replying on behalf of their respective c’nhs. Members nf the Patea R.S.A. attended an Armistice memorial parade and service in Knox Church last Sunday. when Rev. H. B. Burnett preached a fine address. There was a good attendnee of returned soldiers in spite nf the wet weather. Following the service several members attended a special showing of the picture, “The First World War.” which they found very impressive and wonderful. Steps are being taken by the Patea Domain Board to instal flood lighting of the Domain track, and discussion on the matter was reported at the meeting of the board last Friday, Mr. E. F. Hemingwav presiding.
