Contracts will shortly be let by the Public Works Department lor tne clearing and reclamation of that part of Kauri i’oint Domain, Auck.aud, which a recent Goveiiinivnt Gazette notice stated had been taken for naval defence purposes. it is understood that the Govern ment’s intention is to provide at .Kauri Point adequate repair and storage facilities for the services connected with the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, and to make additionai provision for the upkeep uf H.M.S. Leander and Achilles, a schvme lor the reconstruction of the naval base having been approved, and the work commenced. The Minister cf Defence said to-day that he had arranged with the Minister of Public Works for as much as possible of the work to be undertaken by co-operative contract.
