VALEDICTORY MB. AND MRS. JAS. W. MASTERS On Tuesday evening nt the Sandon Town Hall a* large number of the residents of Sandon and surrounding district met at a social gathering to bid farewell to Air. and Airs. W. Al asters, who are shortly leaving the district to take up their residence at Aorangi, Feilding. The evening was spent in dancing and a splendid concert programme arranged by Airs. A. K. Drew was greatly enjoyed by all. Following were the items rendered: Piano solo, Aliss Frances Anderson; tableaux, Girl Guides, Al, Coulter, D. Fly ger and AL Currie; song, Miss N. Alasters; poin dance, junior Girl Guides; trio, Alessrs. A. K. Drew, F. W. Tostevin, and J. Currie. Airs, E. N. Butler and Air. C. Grace supplied excellent dance music, vzhile Air. K. AL Pearce proved a capable M.C. Opportunty was taken before supper

to present to Mr. and Mrs. Masters a beautiful silver tea and coffee service and entree dish. Little Mildred Currie presented Mrs. Masters with a pretty bouquet.

Before making the presentation, Mr. H. J. Fagan said that the name of Masters had ever been associated with the Sandon district, the late Thomas Masters, frtner of the guest of the evening, was one of the must successful and respected men of the district. The speaker went on to say that his first recollection of Mr. Jim Masters was when th v were boys together in the Sanson Methodist Church Choir. This, he stated, was his first appearance in public, functions. “His association with his church he has maintained right throughout the years,” said Mr. Fagan. Air. Masters, continued the speaker, had been a member of the local school committee who were responsible for the Sandon School of to-day. Mr. Masters held the position of president of the Sandon Old Boys’ Association and had always been a very active member of the local sports club and was one of the keenest members of the W.E.A. He had always associated himself with all organisa-

tions for the benefit of the district. Refe ng to Airs. Masters, Air. Fagan said, “She is one of those good women who has always been in the front rank to assist in anything for the benefit of the district.” Air. Fordyce spoke on be J half of the Alethodist Church, and Rev. B. R. White said he was grateful for the opportunity on behalf of his church and himself of expressing their thanks for the many kindnesses Mr. and Airs. Alasters had always shown them. Air. B. J. Frecklington, on behalf of the Ohakea residents, voiced his regret at the departure of two such worthy citizens. Mrs. Jas. Bowater then presented Air. Alasters vith a pipe as a me 4 mento of his valued association with the W.E.A. circle. Mr. Alasters feelingly replied and the evening concluded with “Auld Lang Syne.”
