BARROW TOURISTS
ARRIVAL IN WELLINGTON SORRY THE TRIP WAS OVER I Per Press Association. I WELLINGTON, Bept. 4. The barrow tourists Lukey and Schofield. completed their journey from Auckland this morning, arriving at Thorndon at 11.45. They were met by crowds of cars and cyclists, and the route to the community sing, where they made ’an appearance, was thronged by tho sands of people. Schofield said they had an enjoyable holiday and were sorry the trip was over, ’rhe hospitality received on the route had been wonderful. Both men look particularly well. They accomplished the self-imposed task in 31 days. PARADE THROUGH STREETS WELLINGTON. Sept. 4. The barrow-pushers’ parade through the streets was in aid nf the Mayors’s Metropolitan Relief Funds. A stop was made in the Post Office Square, where Colonel A. Cowles, chairman of the Mayor's Aletropolitan Relief Committee, extended a welcome to the two men, congratulating them on their performance and readiness to assist in the relief of distress. He referred to Lukey as “the old horse.” and said that few were capable of such a daily average as Lukey had done on the Replying, both men eulogised the part played by his mate throughout the undertaking. ATTENDED COMMUNITY SING AV ELLINGTON. Sept. 4. Messrs. Lukey and Schofield on arrival at the community sing were presented on the. platform with their barrow and extended a welcome by Councillor Gaudin. The welcome was acknowledged bv both men ami the crow'l sang “Old Eail h fol. ’ ’
