MISCELLANEOUS CASES “ A sitting of the Wanganui Magistrate’s Court was held yesterday morning, Mr. .1. H. Salmon, B.AU, presiding. The following miscellaneous cases were dealt with:— Frank Carr (Mr. V. B. Willis), was charged with selling a wireless set without a licence. Sergeant Harrison stated that defendant, who had been selling wireless sets, had the impression that he did not require a licence. Air. Willis stated that defendant was really a sub-agent for a man who sold sets for his employer. He had been out of employment and eked out a small existence for some 10 months on commission. Inspector Bradley said the case was brought as a warning by the department, as these cases were hard to trace. Defendant was convicted and ordered to pay costs 10s. Tom Deuce, 21, was charged with stealing a cycle lamp, valued i t 2s lid, the property of J. Tewiki. Sergeant Harrison stated that accused came to the city on Saturday from’ Ratana to see a football match. The owner of the lamp had left his bicycle in the Avenue and it got knocked over, and the lamp was lying alongside. Accused was .seen to pick up the lamp and put it in his pocket. The magistrate said there had been a Jot of petty thieving of cycle parts and lamps and it was just n question whether accused did not deserve a short term of imprisonment. In view of the fact that nothing previously was known against accused, he would be fined £2, in default 14 days’ imprisonment. A youth was charged with damaging a fence in Somme Parade to the extent of Is, the property of B. F. O’Brien. Sergeant JJarrison said that the defendant was walking along the street, and out of mischief pulled two pickets off the fence. He was fined £1 and ordered to make good the damage. Reginald Ernest Webb was charged with negligent driving of a motorcycle in Guyton Street. Sergeant Harrison stated that defendant took a wide sweep with his motor-cycle and crashed into a motor-car, with the re suit, that the cycle was badly damaged and defendant was injured and taken to hospital. The magistrate, after hearing the expenses defendant had been put to, remarked that he appeared to have i had his lesson. However, ne had to ■ impose penalties in these eases, and defendant would be fined £2, with , costs 19s.
