Twenty-three men of the Hist battalion of the King’s Liverpool Regiment have been handed over to the civil authorities for trial on charges of murder and noting near Jubbulpore. A British official wireless message on July 25 stated:— Tho Under-Secretary for India (Mr. R. A. Butler) answered a question in the .House of Commons regarding tho reported incident near Jubbulpore, in India, in which British soldiers and Indian villagers were concerned. He said that the India, Office had so far only a brief telegraphic report of this regrettable incident, bit a more detailed account would bo received when the local investigations were completed. He read an official statement issued at Simla, saying that on July 17 a woman of the village of Karorii, frightened by a British soldier and fearing molestation, gave an alarm, whereupon some of tho villagers turned out and assaulted the soldier, who was rescued by an individual from another village, and wKo is now in hospital. Tho next night a party of men from his regiment raided another village, mistaking it for Karodi and injured 13 villagers, of whom one had since died. The local military commander began an investigation in consultation with the civil authorities.
