MAJESTIC THEATRE
“FLIRTATION WALK." A national dance always expresses the spirit of a people! The joyous carefree passionate Hawaiian is reflected by the joyous abandon of the Hula-Kui. All Hawaiian dances are based on this hula dance, although thorp are several variations. In “Flirtation Walk,” the First National production commencing to-day at the Majestic Theatre, sensational combina tions of folk dances are screened for the first time, the Luau, Hula-Kui ami Pi-ulu. For this spectacular number it was necessary to construct special sets which when finished contained great towering hills sloping to a moon light beach, stately palms, and stretches of beach mirrored in a blue lagoon. Cameras were assembled and the dances commenced. The barrel drums sounded their eerie notes and men and women began to dance to the rhythm of the drum beats and the sound of ukeleles. The Pi-ulu had started. Up, down, sideways their hands and arms moved. Two of the dancers detached themselves and plac ing themselves in the middle of the room commenced to damn* the hula. Gradually singing is mingled with the ukeleles and the drums, and the dance look on a different tempo- the Luau, the Hawaiian love waltz. This is the first time these Hawaiian dances have been exhibited on the screen at the out* lime. Over 60 Hawaiian solo dances were included in the dance. “Klirls lion Walk’’ features Ruby Keeler and Dick Powell ami was directed by Frank Borzage.
